Nasrallah speaks at funeral of Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukr

Lebanon, Beirut

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah speaks at the funeral of military commander Fouad Shukr in Beirut on Thursday, August 1.

Shukr was killed in an Israeli strike on the Lebanese capital on Tuesday. Officials condemned the attack and warned of potential retaliation by Hezbollah, while calling for diplomat efforts to de-escalate tensions.

Israel accused Shukr of being behind Saturday's strike on Golan Heights which killed 12 children, while Hezbollah denied involvement, blaming Israel's own Iron Dome system for the incident.

The Beirut strike came shortly before an attack on Tehran which killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Iran and Hamas blamed Israel, although the IDF did not comment on that strike. Haniyeh's own burial is scheduled for Friday in Doha, following a ceremony in Tehran on Thursday.
