A protest called by youth groups, the left-wing La France Insoumise (LCI) and 12 other organisations, takes place in Paris on Saturday, September 21.
The demonstration, set to start at Place de la Bastille, is in response to what organisers describe as President Emmanuel Macron’s 'undemocratic coup', following the appointment of Michel Barnier as prime minister.
They argue that Barnier, a conservative, lacks legitimacy, given that his party holds only 47 seats in the National Assembly. The New Popular Front left-wing alliance came first with 193 seats although was short of an outright majority.
An impeachment motion was initiated against Macron by LCI, which recently passed its first stage of parliamentary review.
