Police used tear gas and water cannon against protesters. Several officers were seen hitting demonstrators while performing arrests.
Several were reported injured following the clashes.
Dozens of neighbourhood residents have been organising sit-ins over the past days, in protest against the imminent threat of eviction. The threat comes after the Jerusalem District Court ruled that at least six families in the area must leave their homes in Sheikh Jarrah, despite having lived in the neighbourhood for generations.
The ruling came after the court found that the properties had been owned by Jewish families prior to 1948, a claim denied by the current occupants.
The court also ruled that seven other families must leave their homes by August 1. Fifty-eight local residents, including 17 children, will be displaced to make way for Jewish families.
