Description

Donald Trump's Florida golf club in West Palm Beach was sealed off and patrolled by police after shots were reportedly fired in the vicinity on Sunday. The former president was confirmed 'safe' by his team and FBI said it "appears to be an attempted assassination'.

Footage shows road blockades and squad cars in the surrounding area.

A number of media outlets named the suspect as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, and reported him to be a supporter of sending US arms and troops to Ukraine, according to a number of social media accounts. Law enforcement has not commented on the claims and public access to them was since shut down.

The attacker was believed to be around 400-600 yards from Trump when he was seen by the Secret Service, and fled leaving behind an AK-47, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera.

Trump himself, who has promised to end the Ukraine conflict ahead of his January inauguration - should he win in November - thanked the US Secret Service and local sheriff for keeping him safe.

It comes just nine weeks after he was targeted at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The motive of the most recent attack remains under investigation.
