Spanish women's national football team defender Andrea Pereira wants to be an example for kids with diabetes who play football, saying, "it doesn't restrict you from doing anything" on Saturday in Reims after the team’s training to prepare for their clash against the USA, the Women’s World Cup defending champions.

Pereira said she started receiving many messages from parents whose children also have the disease after the Spanish Football federation made a video about her.

"I think it is positive for them to see someone as normal as me playing football, that I manage it the best way I can and that it has not limited me in any way," she said. "It is a disease like any other and if one adapts themselves and takes it well it doesn't restrict you from doing anything."

She also talked about how important their match against the US was, hoping to beat them and move to the quarter finals, or at the very least manage to score a goal against the US, which no other team has managed so far. It is the first time the Spanish team advances on to Round 16.
