Description

Dozens of demonstrators gathered in Santiago's Baquedano Square to demand that the authorities release all those who remain in detention as a result of the widespread anti-government protests that began in October 2019, on Friday.

Chilean Prosecutor's Office has reportedly charged 5,084 people with offences committed during the protests. Some 648 remain in pre-trial detention.

Footage shows protesters holding signs and chanting slogans as they block the street. Police respond with water cannons, firing tear gas and making some arrests as they confront protesters.

This is the first protest since a referendum was held on Sunday that determined the creation of a new Constitution. According to local media, police arrested 20 protesters during the demonstration.
