Description

Harvey Weinstein, the 72-year-old former Hollywood producer, has pleaded not guilty to committing a new sexual assault filed against him in Manhattan, New York.

Footage captured on Wednesday shows Weinstein's legal team addressing the press outside before heading towards the court to attend the hearing.

"We want him out as soon as possible, we don't want any delay. Mr. Weinstein has been very consistent since this investigation. He never forced himself on anybody, and the two complainants in the original case, those were both involved in long-term relationships," said Arthur Aidala, Weinstein's lawyer.

It comes after Weinstein faced a new charge linking to an alleged sexual assault of a woman in a Manhattan hotel in 2006, different from the 2020 rape conviction that was overturned by New York's highest appeals court earlier this year.

"Everyone is still asking for Harvey Weinstein to stay in prison, just a prison that is attached to a hospital, so when he goes into his congestive heart failure periods, there is a doctor there who could treat him as opposed to a correction officer," Aidala added.

Weinstein's 2020 conviction was dismissed because the court found that he had not received a fair trial. He is still serving a 16-year sentence for a 2013 rape conviction in Los Angeles.

Prosecutors have now filed a motion to combine the new charge with the one planned for November. Meanwhile, his legal team wants the cases to be kept separate. The decision on their appeal is expected early October.
