Description

Sudanese activist group, the Wad Madani Resistance Committee, have reported that at least '100 people' were killed in a paramilitary attack on the village of Wad al-Noura in the state of Al-Jazeera over the weekend.

Footage captured on Wednesday shows a large crowd of mourners gathered around dozens of bodies after the incident.

The Wad Madani Resistance Committee claims Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were responsible for the attack.

The RSF has denied the accusation, saying that its forces launched an offensive on three Sudanese army camps in the areas surrounding Wad al-Noura.

It added that RSF forces seized vehicles and weapons belonging to the army, confirming that eight of its members were killed.

In a statement, the Transitional Sovereignty Council called on the international community and human rights organizations to condemn what it called the 'Wad al-Noura massacre', demanding that the perpetrators be held accountable.

Fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF erupted in April 2023, killing around 14,000 people, according to the United Nations.

The fighting has forced more than 8 million people to leave their homes, including 1.8 million outside the country, making Sudan the most displaced country in the world, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
