Twenty people were killed and at least 14 injured in a reported Israeli airstrike on a residential building in the Lebanese coastal town of Barja on Tuesday.
Footage shows the scene of destruction at the building, with rescue workers searching for bodies among the rubble.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced in a statement that the death toll had reached at least 20, with 14 people injured. The toll could yet rise as search and rescue operations continue.
“Today, Barja witnessed a major massacre. The Israeli enemy persists in killing civilians, innocents, children, women and the defenceless who live in this building,” said local journalist and Barja resident Muhammad al-Junun.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health had reported that one person was killed and 20 injured in an Israeli strike on an apartment in the town of Jiyeh, close to Barja, in the Iqlim al-Kharroub area.
Tuesday’s strikes hit buildings in the Chouf district, around 20 kilometers south of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, and beyond the Hezbollah strongholds targeted since September.
Israel has conducted a ground incursion into parts of southern Lebanon, as well as an ongoing campaign of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets over the past month. Lebanon's Ministry of Health stated that 3,013 have been killed and over 13,553 injured at time of publication.
The current escalation between Israel and Hezbollah began last month with explosions of wireless communications devices used by Hezbollah, which killed dozens and injured thousands. The sides have exchanged cross-border strikes since the outbreak of the 2023 Gaza war.
