Description

Taliban militants were filmed enjoying amusement park rides at Kabul's City Park and checking out the animals at Kabul Zoo on Monday. Footage shows Taliban fighters riding bumpers cars, and resting in a park alongside their weapons.

Taliban militant Abdul Karim said "I am having fun and everyone you see is my friends. God willing, there is security everywhere. The Taliban have established security everywhere."

However, Taliban militants reportedly torched the Bokhdi Amusement Park, located in the northern city of Sheberghan, shortly after similar footage emerged of them enjoying bumper cars and other rides in mid-August.

Amusement parks such as Kabul's City Park appear to be suffering from low visitor numbers since the Taliban started frequenting funfairs across Afghanistan.

At the moment, Hijab is compulsory for women in Afghanistan, but Pooshiyeh for covering their face is not obligatory.

As for Afghan females, the footage shows that women are allowed to visit the zoo and amusement park, as well as other public places.

Unlike in universities where women have been segregated, women are now more present in the streets, markets, and public places, while they must take extreme care to be using a hijab at all times. A woman is visible in the footage but the distinct lack of women visible in Kabul has been attributed mostly to the belief that women are uneasy about leaving the home to go out because of fear.
