Description

Crowds of protesters marched and rallied outside of the Los Angeles Police headquarters on Tuesday, on the anniversary of George Floyd's death in the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis.

The crowd listened to speakers while carrying banners and flags supporting Black Lives Matter and calling for the defunding of the police.

"They continue to try to build a militaristic police force, and so instead of dealing with issues in our community to mitigate crime, they are trying to respond to crime and at the same time not dealing with the issues that we have in our community," said Pastor Cue Jn Marie, protest co-organiser.

Los Angeles increased its spending towards the police department by three percent for 2021-2022, for a total of $1.76 billion (€1.43 billion).
