Description

As battles between Iraqi security forces and remaining Islamic State fighters intensify, thousands of civilians continued to flee Mosul on Thursday.

Families were seen walking along the dusty roads leading from Mosul by foot, before eventually reaching buses that are scheduled to take them to Erbil.

Due to concerns that Islamic State fighters are blending in with civilians leaving the city, the Iraqi army detained hundreds of men and carried out I.D and background checks.

According to the United Nations, some 4,000 civilians are fleeing Mosul each day. A total of 28,000 people have been forced to leave the city since US-backed Iraqi forces launched an offensive on February 19.
