Crowds of mourners were seen marching alongside the horse carriage with George Floyd's coffin en route to his final resting place at the Houston Memorial Gardens cemetery in Pearland, on Tuesday.

Mourners were chanting "I can't breathe" and "George Floyd" as they were marching by the funeral procession.

"I've seen a lot of death, but this is one that is going to stick with me for a long time," said James Howard, one of the cemetery's staff members.

One of the mourners attending the service Kay Pleasant hoped that "this movement continue to go forward" and to see "the change that we need to, especially once the lights of the cameras are gone away."

Floyd's casket will be entombed next to his mother. Owner of the cemetery, Janice Howard, said "it is an honour and little did we know two years ago when we buried his mom that we would also be burying him today."

George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was killed as he was being arrested in Minneapolis on May 25, after police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes despite Floyd saying he couldn't breathe.

The four officers charged in Floyd's death have since been fired and charged.

Protests sparked by Floyd's death have been taking place across the US and around the world for the second consecutive week.
