Former US President Barack Obama stated that 'the sequel is usually worse' when talking about former US President and Republican nominee Donald Trump's second term during his speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on Monday.

"Here's a 78-year-old billionaire who has not stopped whining about his problems since he rode down his golden escalator nine years ago," he said, remarking that his 'constant stream of gripes and grievances' has gone worse as he is 'afraid of losing to Kamala'.

Obama declared that Americans worry about who will fight for them and their future, emphasising that "one thing is for certain: Donald Trump is not losing sleep over that question."

"The truth is, Donald Trump sees power as nothing more than it means to his ends," stated the US former president, saying that he wants the middle class to "help him and his rich friends" by paying for another tax cut.

Obama continued saying that the Republican nominee wants the nation "to think that this country is hopelessly divided," emphasising that they "do not need four more years of bluster, and bumbling, and chaos" and that America is ready 'for a better story' with President Kamala Harris.

"The torch has been passed. Now, it is up to all of us to fight for the America we believe in. And make no mistake, it will be a fight," claimed the politician, noting that Kamala Harris will be focused on ordinary people's problems.

Former US First Lady Michelle Obama proclaimed that Harris is 'more than ready' and 'one of the most qualified people ever to seek the office of the presidency'.

She recalled that Trump 'did everything in his power to try to make people fear' her and her husband, "two hard-working and highly educated successful people who happen to be Black," and asked: "Who is gonna tell him that the job he is currently seeking might be one of these black jobs?"

Obama accused the Republican nominee of planning to cut down healthcare, take away women's rights, and shut down the Department of Education and said that 'none of that will prepare our kids for the future'.

"That doesn't make anybody's life better. Instead, instead, it only makes us small. And let me tell you this: going small is never the answer. Going small is the opposite of what we teach our kids. Going small is petty, it's unhealthy, and, quite frankly, it's unpresidential," she stated.

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz officially secured and announced their roles in the elections for the Democratic Party on August 7, after US President Joe Biden declared that he would not be seeking re-election on July 21 via X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Harris is scheduled to close the convention on August 22.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5. On July 15, the Republican Party convention nominated Donald Trump as their candidate for the 2024 race.
