Description

Black Lives Matter demonstrators rallied outside the Rochester police station and overturned barricades on Monday, in protest of officers pepper-spraying a nine-year-old girl.

Protesters chanted 'no justice, no peace' and 'Black lives matter,' as they were seen shaking and overturning barricades outside the police station.

A body-camera footage released by the the police department in Rochester, New York, shows police officers handcuffing and pepper-spraying a nine-year-old girl after responding to a family disturbance call on Friday.

Officers restrained the child and pushed her into snow to handcuff her, as she was screaming for her father. At one point, an officer said “You’re acting like a child,” to which she responded, “I am a child.”

She was eventually pepper-sprayed in the face.

The officers involved in the incident has been suspended until the conclusion of an internal investigation, as announced by Rochester mayor Lovely Warren.

Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo said Rochester needed to “reckon with a real police accountability problem,” and called for a full investigation.

In March 2020, Daniel Prude, a 41-year-old Black man, was fatally injured after being physically restrained by Rochester police officers.
