Hundreds gathered near Baghdad airport, on Sunday, marking the anniversary of the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi Deputy Chairman of the Popular Mobilisation Committee (PMC) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis by the US drone attack which happened last year.
"We came to Baghdad Airport to commemorate the annual commemoration of leaders Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, General Soleimani and their friends in honour of their sacrifices and this is the least what we can offer to them," said Iraqi citizen Zainab Al-Kenany.
The commemoration included a wall where supports hung their personalized notes on, pictures of both leaders with candles and flowers around them in a cornered off barrier, chanting and the display of a damaged vehicle. The event was also attended by high-profile PMC generals such as Head of the Brigade Offensive Fadel Al-Husseiny.
It marks a years since both Soleimani and Al-Muhandis were assassinated in a US drone strike.
