Iran's chief negotiator in the nuclear talks, Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani said talks were suspended for other parties to "consult with their capitals to provide a reasoned and documented response," he told the press in Vienna, on Friday.

"In two areas, one on the issue of lifting illegal and oppressive sanctions, as well as on the nuclear issue, we presented the views of the Iranian negotiating team, in a reasoned and documented manner in the form of two documents to the other side," Bagheri said. "Since the other side needed to consult with their capitals to provide a reasoned and documented response to these proposals, they suggested that talks be suspended for a few days so that they could go to their capitals and they could again return to Vienna after receiving instructions."

The talks, which were supposed to end on Friday, reportedly left European diplomats expressing "disappointment and concern," a fact the Iranian negotiator acknowledged.

"It is true that the European parties were very dissatisfied with some of our proposals, but the important point is that these proposals were based on the common ground between the two sides," he said.
