More than 100 Palestinians were reportedly killed and dozens more injured during dawn (Fajr) prayers on Saturday after an alleged Israeli raid targeted a mosque adjacent to the Al-Taabi'een school, which serves as a shelter for displaced residents in the Al-Daraj neighbourhood of Gaza City.

"We woke up around half past four in the morning to the sound of an explosion. We went down running, to find the prayer chamber was on fire. These people were just praying," shared Yusuf Bashir, a displaced person at the school." They are displaced in school and have no connection (to political parties). I have not yet found my father and brother, and I am still looking for them".

Footage from the scene shows extensive damage, with the bodies of the dead on the ground and the injured being carried into ambulances.

"Ambulances and medical personnel are unable to handle this situation. Each ambulance is being loaded with four martyrs to move them to the Baptist Hospital," explained Fares Afaneh, an ambulance and emergency services officer in northern Gaza. "The situation is difficult, as we have been here for more than an hour and yet there are dozens of martyrs lying on the ground".

"We are talking about 90 to 100 martyrs in this targeting, and unfortunately, most of their bodies are dismembered," said Mahmoud Basal, Gaza Civil Defence spokesperson. "As we can see, most of them are body pieces scattered on the ground. The crews are trying to collect what can be collected to transport it to hospitals and bury them".

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) later issued a statement confirming the strike, claiming that 'terrorists operating from a Hamas command and control centre embedded in the school', which serves as a shelter for the city's residents and is located near a mosque in Al-Daraj and Tuffah area.

The IDF statement added that 'the command and control centre served as a hideout for Hamas terrorists and commanders, from which various attacks were planned', stressing that 'numerous steps were taken to reduce the risk of harm to civilians, including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance and intelligence'.

The Hamas-Israel war erupted after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the enclave, the IDF launched a large-scale campaign of airstrikes and ground incursions, killing at least 39,699 Palestinians and injuring more than 91,722 others as of the time of publication.
