Description

There was a low voter turnout on Corsica island during the first round of the French presidential elections in Bastia on Sunday.

During the previous presidential elections in 2017, Corsica had already voted mainly for Marine Le Pen, with 27.88 percent of the votes going to the far-right candidate in the first round. In the second round, Emmanuel Macron narrowly won with 51.48 percent of the votes.

A little over three weeks after the death of Yvan Colonna, Corsican separatist leaders from Core in Fronte and Corsica Libera called for a boycott of the presidential election.
