Description

Around 100 horse-riders jumped over purification bonfires set up by the locals of San Bartolome de Pinares, on Sunday, as they celebrated for the first time since the start of the pandemic the traditional Spanish festival of 'Las Luminarias'.

Locals and tourists celebrated the tradition held every January 16.

"The tradition of the luminaries of San Bartolome de Pinares goes back centuries when an epidemic killed all the horses in the town, since then on the night of San Anton a bonfire is made that purifies the animals," said a resident.

Locals, some of which attended the ceremony for the first time, greeted its return with excitement.
