Exclusive video captured on April 11, 2019, shows WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange being removed from the Ecuadorian embassy, bringing his 7-year long stay in the building.
Assange could be seen being escorted into a police vehicle waiting outside the embassy.
As he was forced into the police van, Assange could be heard shouting: "They must resist, UK resist, resist this attempt by the Trump administration." He was granted political asylum by Ecuador in London in 2012.
He subsequently spent five years in the UK's Belmarsh prison, during a long-running extradition battle with the US over 18 charges related to the release of classified documents involving the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
On Monday, June 24, 2024, Assange struck a landmark plea deal, leaving the prison and boarding a plane for Saipan - the largest of the Northern Mariana Islands, a US commonwealth.
The location for the plea hearing was chosen reportedly due to its proximity to Australia and his own opposition to travelling to the United States.
Assange is expected to plead guilty to one count of conspiring to obtain and disclose US national defence documents, with the sentence to reflect time served in Belmarsh - and return to home to Australia.
