President of the United States Joe Biden stated he is 'more aware than you might know' of a potential ground incursion in southern Lebanon, speaking during a press conference in Washington, D.C., on Monday.
"Do you have any comments on another issue on the other side of the world, in the Middle East?" one journalist asked Biden, who was taking questions on Hurricane Helene.
"I'm going to stick with this (Hurricane Helene). I will stick with this subject, but go ahead," Biden responded.
Asked if he was 'aware of' and 'comfortable' with a possible 'limited operation in Lebanon' he replied: "I'm more aware than you might know, and I'm comfortable with them stopping. We should have a ceasefire now," he added, before leaving the room.
The Israeli military announced on Monday that was undertaking 'limited' and 'targeted' ground raids against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
Tensions escalated with the assassination of long-time Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, confirmed by the group after a large-scale Israeli airstrike on Beirut on Friday.
Last week, the IDF announced the start of a campaign of airstrikes on Hezbollah positions dubbed 'Operation Northern Arrows'. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that these attacks have resulted in more than 1,800 deaths and 8,400 injured at time of publication.
Hezbollah have been exchanging cross-border shelling with the Israeli forces since the outbreak of the war in Gaza.
