Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Azhar Mosque's yard in Jakarta on Wednesday morning to hold prayers for the Eid al-Fitr holiday ('the feast of breaking the fast'), the joyous celebration marking the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan.
Footage features men and women, some with children, praying outside together.
"Praise to God, and hopefully this will give a blessing to Indonesia as this country had so many bad things happening; with this Eid al-Fitr, let Indonesia be blessed," one of the devotees, Fadli, said.
Eid Al-Fitr falls on the first day of the tenth month of Shawwal in the Islamic lunar calendar, commencing with the rising of the crescent moon, and closes a month-long period of down-to-dusk fasting during Ramadan.
Indonesia has the largest Muslim population of any country in the world, with around 231 million devotees living on the country’s various islands.
