Bolivian President Evo Morales announced his resignation, in a televised address to the nation in La Paz on Sunday.
Morales said that he and his political partners were threatened by the leaders of the opposition - former president Carlos Mesa and activist Luis Fernando Camacho.
"They [Mesa and Camacho] are threatening our lives. If something happens to Evo and Alvaro, you will bear responsibility, Carlos Mesa and Camacho. The security informed me and I want you to know: yesterday they offered 50.000 Dollars to anyone who would handle Evo to this opposition group," added Morales.
"My sin was being indigenous, leftist and anti-imperialist," stressed Morales.
He added that the threats to his supporters were "inhumane" and he resigned to stop it.
