Hundreds of people were part of Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu’s funeral on Friday in Accra, as the former Hatayspor player was one of the over 50,000 people killed by the earthquakes that struck Turkey.

Footage shows Atsu’s families and friends walking around his coffin, paying their last tribute to the footballer.

"You were always so full of life. You seem to be immortal. Your smile and your love I see in our children’s smiles. You are never really gone, as part of you is within them. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure," said Christiana Atsupie, Atsu’s twin sister who delivered the remarks on behalf of Marie-Claire Rupio who was too emotional to finish her speech.

Apart from his family and friends, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghanaian Minister for Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif, Vice President of Press and Foreign Relations of Turkish club Hatayspor Mustfa Ozat, and former Inter Milan player Sulley Muntari also attended Atsu’s funeral.

The player’s body was found under the rubble of his apartment building on February, 18.

Atsu, who was playing his first season defending Hataysport colours, played for several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United and Chelsea. He also made 65 appearances for the Ghanaian national team in 65 opportunities and was part of the 2014 FIFA World Cup squad.
