The Venezuelan National Assembly celebrated the one year anniversary of the locally known 'Battle of Bridges' - where the Venezuelan military prevented an attempt of opposition supporters to bring US-backed aid into the country via the Simon Bolivar International Bridge - in San Antonio del Tachira on Sunday.

"The result of that great manoeuvre, a victory. A victory brothers and sisters, do you know who we defeated? To US imperialism, we do not defeat any adversary to any enemy, it is the imperialism that we managed to overcome, because they were the ones who led this operation," said President of the National Constituent Assembly Diosdado Cabello.

Diosdado was presented with the sword of historic President of the Second Republic of Venezuela by Venezuelan National Coordinator of Local Committee for Supply and Production Freddy Bernal during the special session.

On 23 February, 2019, aid brought by US military planes has been stockpiled in the Colombian border town of Cucuta and was expected to be carried across the border via the Simon Bolivar International Bridge by a number of Venezuelan volunteers at the request of opposition leader and self-declared Interim-President of Venezuela Juan Guaido.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has stated that the aid was nothing but a US plot to disguise an intervention in Venezuela.
