Thousands of Muslims gathered for a 270-metre-long iftar spread on Iran's largest pedestrian bridge in Tehran on Tuesday, marking the halfway point of the holy month of Ramadan.

Footage shows people gathering around the spread, taking their seats, and breaking their fast together under the evening sky. Some can be seen taking photos at the gathering. Footage also shows organisers preparing the spread ahead of the gathering.

"If group programmes are organised well and regularly, they are full of energy, vitality, and freshness, apart from their spiritual and religious aspects," said Parnian, a local resident.

"The religious side is very active and visible," he added. "And many people who come here find more faith in the culture of fasting and throwing the feast. The table that is set up definitely has benefits and a blessing, which is the same spirituality and sincerity that are injected into the people."

Director of Communications and Tourism of the Abbas Abad District of Tehran Mohammad Reza Parsaian said the gathering takes place annually in Ramadan and is open to both locals and tourists.

"In the middle of the month of Ramadan, which coincides with the birthday of Imam Hassan [grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad], peace be upon him, we have a simple iftar gathering on the nature bridge, which is 270 metres long and hosts 2,500 fasting people," he explained.

The month of Ramadan, esteemed in the Islamic faith as a period of reverence and devotion, is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.

This annual observance entails devout prayers during the late evening and voluntary abstinence from both food and drink throughout the daylight hours.
