With Directorate General of Health Services' (DGHS) raising awareness about BF-7, a sub-variant of Omicron COVID-19's strain spreading in the neighbouring countries of India and China, residents of Dhaka could be seen attending hospital.

Footage filmed in Dhaka's 250 Beaded E-TB and chest diseases hospital on Tuesday shows patients being vaccinated by medical staff, queuing at the hospital's reception and waiting for their turn to visit doctor.

Assistant director of 250 Beded E-TB and chest diseases hospital Ayesha Akhter claimed the number of deaths to be very low although the number of people infected with BF-7 is very high.

"Yesterday, four people arriving from China to Bangladesh were diagnosed with COVID. However, it has not been confirmed whether they were infected with BF-7. After the genome sequence, it will be known which variant they have. We will tell everyone to take precautions, be aware and follow government restrictions. You need to follow the health regulations first. Everyone should be vaccinated," Ayesha Akhter stressed.

"Don't panic. Follow the instructions of the Ministry of Health and the Department of Health. A red alert has been declared in all ports. Hospitals have been kept prepared in 2020 and 2021. The health of passengers arriving in Bangladesh from abroad and showing symptoms of the virus is being checked. We have made all preparations. In the last two years, we have successfully coped with COVID," she added.
