Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un warned that South Korea's 'existence' would be 'impossible' if he was forced to use nuclear weapons, during his visit to the training base of special operation units of the Korean People's Army (KPA) on Wednesday.

Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that DPRK's leader said that country's military "would use without hesitation all the offensive forces it possesses, including nuclear weapons" if Seoul attempted to use its military to interfere in the sovereignty of Pyongyang.

"If such a situation comes, the permanent existence of Seoul and the Republic of Korea would be impossible," commented DPRK's leader.

Footage shows Kim Jong-un inspecting the base accompanied by military officials, including chiefs of the KPA General Staff. Soldiers can also be seen cheering on Kim Jong-un's arrival.

In a speech, the DPRK leader accused South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol of 'anti-DPRK intent', claiming that the Republic of Korea along with the US are 'forces destroying regional security and peace'.

Yoon Suk Yeol said that DPRK would 'face the resolute and overwhelming response' from the ROK-US alliance if it used nuclear weapons against Seoul, at the country's annual Armed Forces Day ceremony on October 1.

"That day will be the end of the North Korean regime," Yoon Suk Yeol added.

Kim's sister, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, also reportedly addressed Yoon's speech on Tuesday, October 3. She called the ROK Hyunmoo-5 ballistic missile that was showcased at the Armed Forces Day ceremony an 'odd monster', questioning its military effectiveness and might.

On August 15, ROK President Yoon Suk Yeol proposed the establishment of an official dialogue channel with the DPRK to discuss ways to ease tensions and create a 'path for unification', but Pyongyang has yet to comment on the proposal.

In January 2024, Kim Jong-un announced that the country would no longer support unification with its southern neighbour. He noted that the constitution should be amended to designate South Korea as the 'primary foe and invariable principal enemy'.
