Description

Hundreds of protesters marched from Black Lives Matter Plaza to Gallery place in Washington DC on Saturday.

Protesters demanded for the Metropolitan Police Department, (MPD) to be defunded and resources to be diverted to community programs instead.

"We believe in a world where we do not need police. We know that police don't keep us safe, because police don't even stop crime," Makia Green, an activist with Working Families Party, explained.

Next week, the Washington DC council is expected to address the city budget, a portion of which is to be allocated to the Metropolitan Police Department.
