A team of 38 French firefighters arrived in Bolivia's Santa Cruz de la Sierra on Saturday, to join forces with Bolivian authorities in tackling the fires devastating the Santa Cruz region.
The firefighters, who have a military background and are specialised in civil security, were greeted by Bolivian president Evo Morales on the tarmac.
Two tons of equipment, including masks, jackets, firefighter gloves, helmets, tents, medical equipment and medicines were also sent.
The team made a first assessment on the ground and will benefit from their previous experience tackling the Chilean wildfires in 2017, according to Captain Luc Ferta.
Morales, who had a telephone conversation with French president Emmanuel Macron on Friday, said "It is important to deal with adversity with unity and solidarity, work together in brotherhood spirit to defend life (and) defending the rights of mother earth."
Earlier this week, another team of French servicemen specialised in fires and logistics were deployed to the South American country alongside members of the civil security and firefighters.
Four drone operators and three drones are also expected to reach Bolivia on Sunday.
