Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his speech at inaugural session 'One Earth' at G20 Summit by offering his "deepest condolences to the people affected" by Morocco's deadly earthquake in New Delhi on Saturday.

"We pray that all the injured people get well soon. The entire world community is with Morocco in this difficult time, and we are ready to provide them all possible assistance," said Modi.

Indian Prime Minister also announced that the African Union became the second regional grouping to be admitted to G20 as a full permanent member.

"It was in the spirit of 'Sabka Saath' that India proposed permanent membership for the African Union in the G20. I believe that we all agree on this proposal. With your consent, before we proceed with further proceedings, I invite the Chairperson of the African Union to take their place as a permanent member of the G20," Said Modi.

According to media reports, citing spokesperson to the chairperson of the African Union Commission Ebba Kalondo, the AU has been advocating for full membership for seven years.

"Africans must be better represented at the world's key decision forums, not just observers. The G20 can set the bar in this regard," he added.

The 18th G20 Summit, 'One Earth, One Family, One Future', takes place in New Delhi on September 9-10 and sees India host its first ever meeting of leaders from the world’s largest industrialised and developing economies.
