03:21Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan during the presser with his Myanmar counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin on Wednesday.
"It is a desire to prove to everyone that they are untouchable and to show their permissiveness. What they want, they do - that's it, I see no reason to create such an irritant almost out of the blue" said Lavrov.
The diplomat also stressed that the US hadn’t suggested Russia resume talks on the development of a new agreement to replace the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START-3).
"It has become a habit for them to announce things into a microphone and then forget about them. We have not been approached about resuming the negotiation process," added the politician.
Lavrov said that during the next meeting in Myanmar, the intergovernmental commission will discuss the use of MIR payment system cards, as well as co-operation between central banks.
According to the minister, Russian-Myanmar relations are developing successfully within key sectors of the economy, including nuclear technology, information and communication technology, as well as infrastructure for remote sensing of the Earth.
The US delegation headed by Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday night.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry lodged a strong protest with the United States, saying that Pelosi’s visit seriously damages peace and stability in the region. China's Defence Ministry announced the launch of military drills near Taiwan.
