Description

Rockets were fired and landed close to the Afghan presidential palace in Kabul Tuesday morning. The attack happened while Afghan president Ashraf Ghani was giving prayers to mark the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.

The rockets, which local media are reporting were fired at approximately 8:00 am local time (03:30 GMT), were heard throughout the fortified Green Zone, where the palace and some international embassies are situated.

Local TV images show president Ghani continuing with the public prayers while loud explosions hit the area. There are yet to be any reports of injuries, while it is also not yet clear who was behind the attack. This year, the Taliban has not declared an Eid holiday ceasefire, as has happened in the past.
