Former President Bill Clinton brought humour and pointed criticism to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Wednesday, marking the third day of the event. Clinton, who recently turned 78, quipped about his age in relation to former President Donald Trump, saying, "The only personal vanity I want to assert—I'm still younger than Donald Trump."
Clinton used his speech to contrast the leadership styles of Trump and Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee. He likened Trump to someone seeking attention before a performance, saying, "Trump seeks attention by repeatedly saying 'me me me,'" while promising that a Harris presidency would focus on the needs of the people, emphasising "you you you."
"Donald Trump has been a paragon of consistency. He’s still dividing, he's still blaming, he's still belittling other people. He creates chaos and then he sort of curates. As if it were precious art," Clinton added, criticising Trump’s approach to leadership.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also spoke at the convention, praising Harris as a leader defined by "strength, wisdom, and eloquence," especially in her advocacy for women's rights.
The Democratic National Convention will conclude on August 22, with Harris scheduled to deliver the closing remarks. The US presidential election is set for November 5, with Donald Trump already nominated as the Republican candidate for the 2024 race.
