Counter demonstrations of pro-Palestine and pro-Israeli advocates faced off in Berlin on Saturday as they called for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza.
Footage shows protesters waving Palestinian, Lebanese and Israeli flags during the counter rallies with some holding banners reading: 'Stop the genocide in Gaza', 'One genocide does not justify another' among others. Police officers were also seen monitoring the opposing protests.
Some protesters were temporarily detained by emergency services after allegedly storming a luxury store following the demonstration, according to local reports.
The German government has backed Israel's right to defend itself. Last month, it denied claims that arms permits had been suspended, after the transfer of weaponry stalled amid a number of reported legal challenges.
