Iranian diplomat Ali Bagheri-Kani stated that Iran's criteria of the US guaranteeing no new sanctions are essential to for the nuclear talks to reach an "effective and lasting agreement," from Tehran on Tuesday.

The political deputy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Iran wanted the US to provide guarantees "not to impose new sanctions in the first place, not to impose sanctions that have already been imposed and lifted, not to withdraw again [from the agreement], not to use the capacities in the agreement, against the member states of the JCPOA."

Bagheri said that although Iran is willing to negotiate with deal in sight, “we do not trust the other side, we are not naive.”

The talks are scheduled for Wednesday, according to Bagheri-Kani.

"What the Americans did to impose illegal and oppressive sanctions on our people is, in fact, a major factor in the current situation," he added.

Iran, Germany, France, Russia, China and the United Kingdom are attending the talks in the Austrian capital on Monday. Iran refused to hold direct talks with the US since it is not currently a member of the JCPOA accord.
