Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led the military parade and celebrations for the country's 64th Independence Day on the forecourt of the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.

"We're fully committed in ensuring that there is peace in Nigeria," said General Christofer Gwabin Musa, chief of defence staff. "So whatever it is we're doing, we want to ensure that Nigeria keeps moving forward."

Footage shows the military guards performing at the parade which was attended by top government officials and foreign diplomats. It also shows cultural dances and routines to highlight the country's rich cultural diversity.

"Mr President recognised the fact that the times are trying times for Nigerians," added Senator Opeyemi Bamidele. "[He] recognised the fact that as much as possible, the level of resilience, cannot be too much, you know. And he reassured Nigerians, you know, that the government was on top."

"Africa is developed, while Nigeria is more developed than any other country," said an attendee. "[In] the nearest future, Nigeria will take its rightful place in the international community."

The country gained full independence from the UK on October 1, 1960.
