Military trucks could be seen driving outside the zone and helicopters circled above as the final preparations for the opener were being put in place.
Among the leaders attending the evening's event are Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chinese President Xi Jinping who will officially open the games.
