Description

Aerial footage captured on Saturday revealed a bleak picture of Moulay Brahim town, displaying the widespread destruction caused by the earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday night.

The epicenter of the seismic event was in the Al-Haouz province, right at the heart of Moulay Brahim, where the majority of houses were constructed from clay bricks and cinder blocks.

The strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 caused many houses to collapse and become uninhabitable. Falling walls have exposed the damaged interiors of these homes, and their debris rolls down the slopes. Stranded people can also be seen in this economically struggling rural community.

Rescue teams quickly mobilised, desperately searching for survivors amid the debris in Moulay Brahim. With the potential for casualties to rise further, the situation remains dire.

Moulay Brahim, a community of just under 3,000 residents, used to be a haven for tourists and nature enthusiasts, offering stunning landscapes and easy access to Marrakech.

The quake claimed the lives of over 2,100 people across Morocco, and the residents of Moulay Brahim were not spared from the tragedy.
