Protesters in support of former President Trump called for a 'forensic audit' of the 2020 election results at a rally on Tuesday in front of the Michigan Capitol in Lansing.
Supporters at the protest were holding up signs and flags reading 'Trump won' and ‘full forensic audit’. Local Republican candidates and organisers of the protest were holding speeches repeating Donald Trump's claims of voter fraud. According to US media, the former president sent letters to supporters to encourage them to attend the rally.
"Secure elections is not a partisan issue, it's an American issue. Without secure elections, we functionally no longer have a republic left. We're constantly being told that this is the most secure election in history. Then prove it, prove it to us," said Republican candidate for Michigan Secretary of State Kristina Karamo in her speech.
Michigan House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski, who was giving an interview to the press close to the protest, ensured that audits have already been conducted to prove the legitimacy of the 2020 results.
"We will not be intimidated from doing our job for the people of Michigan," she said to the press.
250 audits have been completed by republican, democratic and non-partisan officials in the aftermath of the election in Michigan verifying the results.
