Description

Russian sappers continued demining operations near Stepanakert in Nagorno-Karabakh, as seen from Russian Ministry of Defence footage released on Monday.

According to the ministry, engineering units of Russia’s peacekeeping forces have cleared about 238 hectares of land, 93 kilometres of roads, 423 buildings, and discovered and neutralised more than 8,300 explosives.

All explosive objects found are taken to a specially equipped landfill for further disposal, the ministry said in a statement.

Following more than six weeks of hostilities, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Russian-brokered deal to end fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh on November 9.

Under the terms of the agreement, 1,960 Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region to observe the ceasefire.
