A crowd of protesters gathered for a pro-Palestine rally outside MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) on Friday, following the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel that came into force earlier the same day.
Over 250 artists, critics, and scholars signed a letter addressing the alleged ties between board members at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Israel's airstrikes against Palestinians.
Over the past days, activists alleged that MoMA trustees Larry Fink and Leon Black both have investments in companies that supply arms to the Israeli military.
The letter, titled 'Free Palestine/Strike MoMA: A Call to Action,' follows 11 days of Israeli and Palestinian confrontations and several days of protests in New York City by pro-Palestinian supporters.
"We must understand the museum for what it is, not only a multipurpose economic asset for billionaires, but also an expanding ideological battlefield through which those who fund apartheid and profit from war polish their reputations and normalise their violence. For MoMA's board members the trail of their malfeasance leads in many directions, from fuelling climate crisis to support for the NYPD foundation," said Shaline, a protester.
The conflict led to over 240 fatalities on the Palestinian side and 12 on the Israeli side, according to the respective authorities.
The ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian groups came into force on Friday (23:00 GMT, Thursday).
