Description

A Beijing passport and visa issuing centre was crowded on Monday after China's national immigration administration said it had improved and sped up the country's travel procedures, starting on January 8.

Footage shows the reception hall of the Tongzhou Branch of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau crowded with citizens.

According to the Department of Citizen Exit and Entry Administration of the National Immigration Administration, more than 3,200 public security exit and entry windows across China have resumed accepting and approving Chinese citizens' applications for ordinary passports for travel abroad and visiting friends and resumed the processing of endorsements for mainland residents travelling and business to Hong Kong.

This comes after Beijing's sharp u-turn on its zero-COVID policy allowing the lifting of travel restrictions for its citizens.
