Identical siblings of all ages from various provinces gathered under the roof of Iran's Ministry of Interior Great Hall in Tehran to celebrate National Twins Day on Thursday organised by the Parsi Twins and Multiples Association.

Footage shows groups of twins going through photo sessions, sharing personal experience and enjoying staged programs while cheering in a hall.

"We have 40,000 members in our association from across Iran," said Ehsan Khaseh Tarash, the Managing Director of Parsi Twins and Multiples Association.

"Roughly around one to three per cent of each society is based of twins or multiples. From this population statistics, 70 per cent are fraternal twins and 30 per cent are identical," added Iman Khaseh Tarash.

Participants Samin and Negin Hosseini expressed their delight, highlighting the support and companionship they provide for each other, emphasising the strength of their 'telepathic connection.'

"It's a very good feeling. I mean the only person that always supports you, is always beside you. Someone to unburden my worries with. We have similar feelings. Our telepathic connection is very strong," said one of the Hosseini siblings.

Brothers Hossein and Amir Abbas Ashtari suggested that the government should provide financial assistance to families with twins and multiples, citing the current economic strain.

"Basically typical families have difficulty bringing up one child, let go of two. So, if there is financial aid, and support it will be much better," said Hossein.

In 2021, the first study on twin births around the world reported a rise in twin birthrates since the 1980s, with one in 42 people now born a twin.
