Pope Francis held prayers for victims of war in Iraq at the Hosh al-Bieaa in Mosul, on Sunday.

Before addressing the congregation, Pope Francis listened to the testimonies of a Catholic priest and Sunni Muslim, victims of terror in Mosul.

Following the prayers Francis released a white dove.

Hosh al-Bieaa (Church Square) is where the ruins of four churches are located which were damaged by the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

After his prayer in Mosul, the pope is expected to visit the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Qaraqosh where he will recite the Angelus Prayers with believers. Upon his return, he is expected to celebrate the Holy Mass at Erbil's Franso Hariri stadium.
