Description

Dozens of protesters gathered in Los Angeles, Saturday, to protest against the Israel-Palestine conflict and 'condemn the US complicity in these war crimes with Israel' as stated by the organisers.

Protesters held Palestinian flags and signs reading pro-Palestinian messages, while listening to speeches and chanting slogans. The demonstration proceeded as a caravan that drove through the streets of Los Angeles to reach the Federal Building, where more speeches were delivered.

Sarah, a Palestinian Youth Movement member, said, "Right now the United States is funding apartheid regime in Israel right now, cause the money that the United States provides goes to Israel, goes to the military to the IDF forces which brutalises and kills Palestinian there."

One Jewish-American protester, Elisheva Engel, said she was getting death threats from Jews, calling her a "self-hating Jew" for supporting Palestinians.

"I have no doubt about what's going on right now and I haven't slept in two weeks because all I am doing is just reading about all the propaganda and all the lies that I have been told," she said.

Among the organisations which participated in the demonstration were the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Southern California, Union del Barrio, the Harriet Tubman Center for Social Justice, the Puerto Rican Alliance, the Socialist Unity Party, the Black Caucus and CHIRLA.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was agreed upon on Thursday with the mediation of Egypt after 11 days of escalation. The fighting led to 248 fatalities on the Palestinian side and 12 on the Israeli side, according to the respective authorities.
