Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, sent a message of unity and spoke about upcoming challenges in 2024 during his New Year's address in Berlin on Sunday.
"It is so important that Europe emerges united and stronger from next year's European elections," he said.
The German Chancellor warned about several future challenges and issues including the US and the European elections, as well as the war in Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Scholz mentioned the EU's agreement on asylum reform, stating it would help reduce illegal immigration.
"In the future, we will be able to better control Europe's external borders. And the federal police have also stepped up their checks at the borders with our neighbouring countries. This is having an effect. The number of people crossing these borders has already fallen noticeably in recent weeks," he concluded.
