Description

An official public event was held in the capital, Sanaa, on Monday to commemorate the second anniversary of the assassination of the Iranian Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani and the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis.

The Prime Minister of the Salvation Government in Sanaa, Abdulaziz bin Habtoor, stressed that this event aims “first to commemorate the memory and commitment to responsibility, the responsibility of the Yemenis because they are part of this axis of resistance, this is the most important thing.”

Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis were killed in a US drone strike in the Iraqi capital on 3 January 2020 on the orders of US President Donald Trump. In Iran, Soleimani was considered a national hero for preventing the expansion of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia in the region, but the US saw him as a terrorist and the military face of Iranian interference in the region's neighbouring countries.
