Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi joined a ceremonial meeting at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla mosque in Tehran on Tuesday to commemorate the third anniversary of General Qassem Soleimani’s death.
“We have not forgotten about martyr Soleimani's blood and we won't. So, they should know, avenging martyr Soleimani is inevitable and we won't let the ones who are responsible [for his death] sleep peacefully,” said Raisi.
Soleimani was killed in a US airstrike at Baghdad's international airport, together with the deputy leader of Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) Mohammed Ali Ebrahimi, also known as Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, on January 3, 2020.
The Pentagon released a statement confirming the US had carried out the airstrike on the orders of then US President Donald Trump, calling it a ‘decisive defensive action to protect US personnel abroad’.
